So I just finished sorting artwork into some new folders and they are now open for submissions!

Plantlike Patterns
Patterns With People
Patterns With Animals
All The Designs

On a technical note, I like having the folder for all the designs because then if I start a new folder I can just go through that instead of having to go all over the place looking for art that goes there.

Also, as time goes on I'll probably have a folder for 'artwork before 2018', 'all the artwork 2018', all the artwork 2019', and so on.  That way we can look back and compare, and it will end up being too much to fit in one folder anyway, which is awesome! :D

I also have some vague idea of opening a folder or two for types of fantasy, or characters, maybe one for designs with calligraphy, but I haven't thought it all through yet, so that's it for now.

Take care, have fun, keep arting and stuff,

Group Info

Welcome! :)

There are lots of wonderful groups out there featuring different kinds of decoration, well here is a group for all kinds!

We accept pretty much all sorts of patterns: Ancient, Medieval, Victorian, all sorts of cultural and ethnic traditions, spirals, geometry, acanthus leaves, whether for stonecarving, woodcarving, leatherworking, architectural details, jewelry....just for a few examples.

What is ornament/ornamentation?

For the purpose of this group, ornament is decorative art, such as spirals, zentangling, knotwork, or geometries, as opposed to representative art such as a landscape painting, (although I would accept it if it had a decorative border for example).

Some patterns can be too simple, to be considered ornamentation for the purposes of this group, like if its just a row of identical dots or parallel lines, although mostly that shouldn't be a problem.

Submissions will be accepted or rejected based largely on whether or not they fulfill the definition of ornamentation for the purpose of this group.

Please don't feel bad if I decline your submissions, just because it doesn't fit the purpose of this group doesn't mean it isn't really good art!

Calligraphy mostly doesn't count even if the letters are pretty unless it has additional decoration, or if the letters have decoration on them.

Mosaics and stained glass do count unless they are merely representational or abstract in a non ornamentational way.

Submission limit 5 per day.

Don't post anything obsene or otherwise innapropriate.

You can submit to Featured or to the particular folder for the category closest to your artwork. I hope to be adding more folders for categories as they are needed.

I have a lot of stock photos from the covers of some old classic books. They all have various repeating patterns on the cover, like fleur-de-lis, decorative borders, etc. Which folder would they go in?

Its mostly for designs that could repeat top to bottom and left to right, like wallpaper, as opposed to edges and borders and stuff like that. So some of your designs could go in repeating patterns because they have that kind of design in the middle, but the other ones should go in other folders that apply, and then I sort it into all the folders that I think are applicable.  You can submit to featured, but then it takes me longer to sort it to the proper folders.  So there's that, or traditional media 2-D, (if its pretty flat and looks flat as a picture), or 3-D for picture frames, there's also acanthus, plantlike patterns and anything else you think it goes in.  Hope this helps.
